One of the things I like about living where I do is that I can get up in the morning, take a stroll a couple blocks down the street, and see wildlife. In a previous post I wrote about the egret that has been at the lake several mornings. In this post I feature a Black-crowned night heron, and as much as I want you to see the bird in the photographs, it is not easy to be blind to the deplorable condition of the water in Yosemite Lake. Pretty bird, ugly lake.

If this heron could cry, I am sure it would. I will just leave it at that. There just aren’t words. Almost every day I walk down by the lake and manage to see beyond the pollution, taking in the beauty that I know is there. Yes, I have been part of community efforts to clean up the park, but only so much can be accomplished by volunteers, and health and safety concerns keep volunteers from completing some of the most needed tasks.

Another reason I don’t have much to say on this is what this blog is essentially about. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I’ll let them speak.

Stockton has incredible potential and is slowly moving forward, but there is much work to be done.
